TEXAS HOSTS CONCEPTS TRAINING COURSE FOR STATE RC&D DIRECTORS

Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Directors from across the state recently took the opportunity to participate in the first concepts training course designed for board directors and administrative assistants. The training was held in Lubbock, July 26-29, where the national employee development center concepts cadre’ provided instruction for the course.

Board directors and administrative assistants experienced interactive sessions with topics on coordinator roles, director’s roles and board duties and responsibilities. Participants were challenged to think outside the box and strive to go above and beyond in the development of their RC&D council.

Marva Beck, president for the Big 8 RC&D and first vice president for the state RC&D association stated , “Board directors need to attend this training to become more effective in their role as RC&D directors.”

While RC&D directors are always welcome to attend training courses given to RC&D coordinators, this training marks the first time nationwide that directors received a training curriculum that was modified to focus directly on the issues and needs of directors. Natural Resources Conservation Service, Wes-Tex RC&D Coordinator Cindy Poole said, “This training was unique because it was planned specifically for directors.”

Directors and administrative assistants attended the training representing five RC&D councils in Texas and two RC&D councils in New Mexico.

As a result, the training proved to be an overwhelming success. Plans are being made by the Texas State Association of RC&Ds to develop their own teaching cadre’. They now understand that there is a definite need for all directors to attend this training course.
